🍆 How to Grow Organic & Desi Round Brinjal (Baingan)

☀️ 1. Climate & Season

Brinjal loves warm and sunny weather (25–35°C).

Cannot tolerate frost or very cold winds.

Sowing Time in India:

North India: January–March and June–July

South India: Almost all year round (avoid heavy rains)

> 💡 The crop needs at least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.

🌾 2. Soil Preparation (Organic Way)

Ideal soil: Fertile, loamy, and well-drained, rich in organic matter.

Soil pH: 6.0–7.0

Before sowing, mix well:

4–5 kg compost or cow dung manure per sq.m.

Neem cake powder – 100 g per sq.m. (for pest protection)

Avoid waterlogging — it causes root rot.

🌱 3. Sowing Methods

(a) Nursery + Transplant Method (Best Method)

1. Prepare nursery bed: Fine soil + compost (1:1).

2. Sow seeds 1 cm deep and cover lightly.

3. Water gently and keep in partial shade till germination (7–10 days).

4. After 25–30 days, transplant healthy seedlings when they are 10–12 cm tall.

5. Spacing: Keep 45–60 cm between plants and 60–75 cm between rows.

(b) Direct Sowing (Optional for Small Areas)

Sow 2–3 seeds per pit, 1–2 cm deep, and thin out weaker ones later.

Maintain same spacing as above.

(c) Pot / Container Growing

Use 12–15 inch deep pot or grow bag.

Fill with soil + compost (1:1) and add a handful of neem cake.

Provide full sunlight and good drainage holes.

💧 4. Watering

Water regularly to keep soil slightly moist.

Avoid waterlogging — roots are sensitive.

In summer, water daily; in winter, every 2–3 days.

Mulching with dry leaves or straw helps retain moisture.

🌿 5. Organic Feeding

Feed the plants every 15–20 days with:

Cow dung slurry or vermicompost tea

Jeevamrut or Panchagavya spray

During flowering and fruiting, add a bit of banana peel compost for potassium.

🐛 6. Organic Pest & Disease Control

Common problems: Aphids, fruit borer, whiteflies, leaf miner, and wilting.

✅ Remedies:

Neem oil spray (5 ml per liter) once a week.

Use garlic–chili spray for fruit borers.

Hang pheromone traps for moths.

Rotate crops — don’t plant brinjal after tomato or chili (same family).

🌸 7. Harvesting

Brinjals are ready to harvest 60–80 days after transplanting.

Pick fruits when they are bright, shiny, and firm.

Don’t let fruits over-ripen — it reduces yield and taste.

Regular harvesting encourages more fruiting.

🌼 8. Extra Tips

Sunlight: Minimum 6 hours daily.

Support: Use bamboo sticks to support heavy branches.

Companion plants: Marigold, coriander, and basil (help repel insects).

After every harvest, add a little compost for continuous growth.
