🌱 Lady Finger (Bhindi) Cultivation Guide – Desi & Organic Method
Lady finger is a fast-growing, high-yield vegetable suitable for kharif, summer, and rainy seasons. It performs very well under organic farming.

🌤️ 1. Climate Requirement
Grows best in warm climate.
Ideal temperature: 25–35°C
Highly sensitive to frost.
Best sowing time (India):
Summer: February – March
Kharif / Rainy: June – July
Autumn: September – October
🌾 2. Soil Requirement
Best soil: Well-drained sandy loam or loam soil
Soil should be loose and fertile.
Soil pH: 6.0 – 7.5
Before sowing:
Mix well-decomposed cow dung compost or FYM.
Remove weeds and stones.
❌ Avoid waterlogged soil (causes root diseases).
🌱 3. Seed Sowing
✅ Bed Preparation
Make raised beds or ridges.
Keep row spacing for good air circulation.
✅ Sowing Method
Seed depth: 2–3 cm
Row spacing: 45–60 cm
Plant spacing: 30 cm
Soak seeds in water for 8–10 hours before sowing (improves germination).
Germination time: 5–7 days
💧 4. Watering
Light watering after sowing.
Water every 5–7 days in summer.
During rainy season, irrigate only if needed.
❌ Overwatering causes yellowing and root rot.
🌿 5. Organic Fertilizer Management
Apply vermicompost or compost before sowing.
Use jeevamrit or compost tea every 15 days.
Apply neem cake at sowing time (pest control + nutrition).
✂️ 6. Intercultural Operations
First weeding after 20–25 days.
Keep soil loose by light hoeing.
Mulching helps retain moisture and control weeds.
🐛 7. Pest & Disease Control (Organic)
Aphids & whiteflies: Neem oil spray (5 ml per litre water).
Shoot & fruit borer: Spray neem seed kernel extract (NSKE 5%).
Remove infected plants immediately.
Encourage beneficial insects.
🥒 8. Harvesting
First harvest in 45–50 days after sowing.
Harvest tender pods every 2–3 days.
