🍈 Muskmelon (Kharbuja) Cultivation Guide – Desi & Organic Method
Muskmelon is a summer-season vine crop known for its sweet aroma, juicy flesh, and high market demand. It performs very well under organic farming with proper care.

🌤️ 1. Climate Requirement
Muskmelon grows best in warm and dry climate.
Ideal temperature: 25–35°C
Sensitive to frost and excessive rainfall.
Best sowing time (India):
North India: January – February
Central & South India: December – January
Warm days and cool nights improve sweetness and flavor.
🌾 2. Soil Requirement
Best soil: Sandy loam or well-drained loam soil
Soil should be light, loose, and fertile.
Soil pH: 6.0 – 7.5
Before sowing:
Mix well-decomposed cow dung compost or FYM.
Add neem cake to prevent soil pests.
❌ Avoid heavy clay and waterlogged soil.
🌱 3. Seed Sowing
✅ Pit Preparation
Dig pits of 45 × 45 × 45 cm.
Fill pits with soil + compost + neem cake.
✅ Sowing Method
Sow 2–3 seeds per pit.
Seed depth: 2–3 cm
Spacing: 1.5–2.0 meters between pits.
After germination, keep 1–2 healthy plants.
Germination time: 6–8 days

Light irrigation just after sowing.
Water every 5–7 days.
Reduce watering during fruit ripening (improves sweetness).
❌ Overwatering reduces taste and causes fruit cracking.

Apply vermicompost before sowing.
Spray jeevamrit or compost tea every 15 days.
Avoid excess nitrogen (causes more vines, fewer fruits).
