🥕 How to Grow Orange Carrot (Desi & Organic Method)
🌤️ 1. Climate
Best grown in cool season.
Ideal temperature: 15–25°C.
In Punjab, best sowing time:
August–November (main season)
February – March (also Good)
Carrot prefers winter — hot weather makes roots thin and bitter.
🌾 2. Soil Requirement
Light, sandy loam soil is best.
Soil should be loose and deep (at least 1 foot).
pH: 6.0–7.0.
Remove stones and hard clods (otherwise roots bend).
Before sowing:
Mix well-rotted cow dung compost.
Do not use fresh manure (causes forked roots)
🌱 3. Seed Sowing
✅ Bed Preparation
Make raised beds (1 meter wide).
Level the soil properly.
✅ Sowing Method
Sow seeds directly in soil.
Depth: 1–1.5 cm only.
Row spacing: 20–25 cm.
Plant spacing after thinning: 5–7 cm.
Carrot seeds are small — mix with sand for even sowing.
Germination takes 7–14 days.
💧 4. Watering
Light watering after sowing.
Keep soil moist during germination.
After that, water every 5–7 days.
Avoid overwatering (causes root rot).
🌿 5. Fertilizer (Organic Way)
Add vermicompost before sowing.
Apply jeevamrit or compost tea every 15–20 days.
Avoid excess nitrogen — it increases leaves, not roots.
✂️ 6. Thinning
When seedlings are 3–4 inches tall:
Remove extra plants.
Keep spacing 5–7 cm.
This helps carrots grow thick and straight.
🐛 7. Pest & Disease Control
Aphids: Spray neem oil (5 ml per litre water).
Root rot: Avoid waterlogging.
Keep field clean.
🥕 8. Harvesting
Ready in 90–110 days.
Pull gently when roots are fully orange and thick.
Do not delay harvest — roots become hard.
⏳ Yield
8–12 tons per acre (depending on variety and care).
